Roaming Roosters set £10m turnover target


Simon and Nick Mellin, founders of the grass-fed meat company, Roaming Roosters have been in the spotlight recently as they are on target to reach a £10m turnover later this year. The pair have an honest and ethical approach to food retail, their use of native British breeds sourced from local farmers enables full traceability at a time when consumers are demanding it. After opening their Bistro and farm shop in 2012 sales rocketed from £50,000 to £1.2m within the first year. Now with wholesale and eCommerce channels within the group, the company is growing faster than ever.

Nick, who once fronted the retail arm of the business, is responsible for Roosters’ two butchery and fulfilment plants, overseeing 100 staff and the preparation of some 25,000 packs of meat every week. He said: “When we set up the first distribution plant we had six staff and a handful of smaller resellers, mixed with wholesale restaurant, pub and hotel trades. Today we provide white labelled products to a variety of recognised food wholesalers, and resale products to worldwide e-commerce retail brands.”
